"I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library."

Things tend to get a little hectic at work during July and August, as illustrated by the latest response to me trying to transfer a call to a coworker: 'well is it *really* for me?' Alas, I am not psychic. I do not know whether the person asking for my coworker has in fact mistaken her for someone else with the same name and job title. But, even if I did know, I wouldn't really care. It is not, fortunately, part of my job to screen people's calls. I am nobody's secretary. And if said coworker tries this sort of stalling tactic again I will gently point this out to her, along with the fact that she is not the only one who is bloody busy, thank you very much.

RIP Bob Smithies, aka Bunthorne. I could hardly ever complete his Guardian crosswords, but his clues were hilarious, elegant and brilliant.
