"I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library."

My Easter break was dominated by trials with public transport, including the ghosts of public transport past. Ie. on Friday we tried to walk along some nice disused railway lines (between Eridge and Polegate) but got lost and confused due a combination of organisational incompetence and inadequate mappage. And had to be rescued in Uckfield by kind friends with a car and hot cross buns.

Monday found us trying to make a simple bus journey to and from Seaford, but unfortunately the entire population of Brighton and its dog had the same idea and the bus there resembled the proverbial sardine tin but with more halitosis and illegal standing upstairs. On the way back, the bus was nearly an hour late and then there was a power cut leading to all the traffic lights at the Steine being down, which was obviously a cue for total 4x4 based anarchy/gridlock. When we finally got on another bus with all our shopping, it happened to be driven by the one guy who didn't seem to hold with bus lanes, apparently preferring to have a nice rest while sitting in traffic as all the other buses whizzed cheerfully past.

Fortunately, the trains to Lewes and barbecue on Saturday were trouble-free. Unfortunately, it rained all afternoon.
