It's official: Mornington Crescent is NOT the most fun you can have with a tube map. (Nor is The Great Bear, though I am fond of it.) These anagrams are things of strange beauty (and a boon to budding crossword compilers as ILE has already discovered). The map just keeps on giving, but some of my favourites are 'Lambency Welters', 'Nether Bangle', 'Hobo Rug' and, quite simply, 'Modern'.Tags: transport anagrams 17:28 . . .
Had a day at work yesterday that reminded me of my worst public library experiences - the ones where ALL your 'problem patrons' come in at once. At least my students tend not to smell. But god some of them are demanding. So I had 'Scarecrow' - gangly straw-haired mature student who carries on a constant internal monologue except not internally, so you have to pay attention to discern which bits are directed at you, and who loves the PCs but unfortunately hasn't the faintest idea how to use them; 'The Conscientious Kid' - informs you of exactly what he is doing at all times, and prints out customised versions of his learner diaries which have to be signed off by us in a complex colour-coded system; and 'Tourette' - prone to loudly shouting 'fuck it!' when he drops something or makes a mistake (often) and to random crying fits.Still, I am quite fond of them all really. Unlike a certain faculty member, Dr Ditzy Bitch, who treats everyone like her personal secretary but especially me. I was here until half an hour after closing on Friday because she was setting up for a conference and had left her keys in her office, so I couldn't leave until she did. On Monday she virtually accused me of allowing some books to be stolen from the conference room (she later found them under the table). She then deposited about 20 books behind my desk for students to access, suggesting when I protested that there wasn't really space that I 'just put them on the floor'. Why should she care if I break an ankle?Tags: work gripes 09:33 . . .
