How can this be? I'm sure I've spent all afternoon writing, and yet I've still ended up with a total of 13265 words. That's only 249 extra words since Wednesday. I NEED MORE WORDS DAMMIT!

My working life would be so much better if I had my own office, I've decided. Screw 'hotdesking' - my desk is cold and exposed, to both the elements and the criminally insane, aka faculty. Based on an unscientific sample of my coworkers, here's what you get to do if you have your own office:

1. play Solitaire without anyone seeing
2. cover the walls with jolly photos of your exciting life
3. install a fridge, a kettle, a toaster and a coffee machine for your own personal use
4. drink alcohol at your desk
5. eat messy foods at your desk
6. carry on long personal phone calls
7. change clothes at will
8. play music as loud as you want
9. HIDE from anyone you don't want to see

I can always tell when boredom at work reaches critical mass, because I start experimenting with my handwriting. This morning I practised signing letters in very small neat writing, while addressing envelopes in very big curvy writing. Hopefully this whim won't last too long, because really I'm not very good at writing in anything other than my normal hand, and it probably looks a bit unprofessional sending out promotional material which resembles a bored teenager's exercise book.

Had a very good weekend (though shamefully unproductive on the dissertation front - still 8000 words to go). Matt and I went swimming on Friday, and I'm getting quite keen on it again despite the industrial strength chlorination which still fails to entirely mask the faint miasma of wee, the changing 'rooms' which seem to have been designed with Houdini in mind, and the fact that I can't see anything without my glasses.

On Saturday I did some actual work before rewarding myself with a shopping trip to buy a new dress (this could become expensive if I feel the need for retail therapy after every thousand words...) I then went out to
Da Doo Ron Ron for some mad girly dancing and lounging sophisticatedly in the piano bar (because I am an old woman and can't do mad girly dancing for very long before I need to sit down).

Sunday obviously necessitated some recovery time (sleep, West Wing, and chocolate raisins) before gearing up for the pub quiz. We came third, winning the grand total of £9 to split between the six of us... it's only a matter of time before we hit the big bucks though; we just need to nobble the seemingly invincible bunch of geeks who usually win it...
