"I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library."

Current mood: despondent and worried. This is partly due to it being close to the end of yet another week when my court case might have come up, but didn't. Another week of looking nervously at the phone and wishing it was all over. Another week of complete unhelpful silence from the trials unit. I know that to them it's just another chunk of routine admin, but to me it's a big annoying traumatic REAL thing.

It's also due to trying to fill in registration forms for a specialist recruitment agency, and realising that in the proper information sector, my qualifications and experience don't amount to shit. I can play at being a librarian in my head as much as I like, but when it comes down to it I've been doing this one unchallenging job for nearly five years and I don't know what else I CAN do. I'm completely bored, but completely terrified of change. And I think my last horrific interview for a real academic library position has knocked my confidence more than I realised.

When stupid questions are GOOD:
Our technician is away again, usually a signal for the computers to all go wrong at once (and indeed we have already had one laptop and one data projector crisis, both before 9.30 this morning). I have pretty much perfected my technique of making turning things off and then on again seem complicated and impressive, but my heart still sank when a student came to inform me that her memory stick wouldn't work. I was getting ready to press a few buttons and then send her to another computer cluster, and hoping I wouldn't get a mouthful of abuse for it, when I noticed that oh joy! she had merely stuck the stick IN THE WRONG MACHINE. Hurrah, a problem I can solve.
