"I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library."

Wednesday, January 04, 2006
I won't bore you with what I did over Christmas and New Year, because although it was all lovely and jolly it was in essence what everyone else in the country was doing.

Instead, here's the True Love and High Adventure 2005 roundup:

January: I start the 50 Book Challenge, register my forthcoming nuptials, get excited by double-decker trains in Amsterdam, and pick out the man who mugged me (probably) from an ID parade.

February: I buy a wedding dress, spend a lot of time being ill, and struggle with information retrieval assignments.

March: the new Jubilee library opens in Brighton, and I spend a traumatic Easter weekend at a dog show.

April: we join Freecycle, and apparently nothing much else happens.

May: I see the Ladyboys of Bangkok, and warm a pond.

June: I turn 27, plan a wedding, write a research proposal, and watch tennis.

July: Matt and I get married. Five days later, a terrorist bomb kills Liz. A surreal month.

August: we try to resume normal life. Fifty books have now been read, and we are initiated into the twilight world of other married couples.

September: I start working on my dissertation, the Guardian goes Berliner, and my court case is postponed indefinitely.

October: mini Indian summer. I survive another fresher's week.

November: a brilliant Bonfire Night, a fun trip to Cambridge, but also another untimely death (of Amy from Sinister.)

December: I read my 72nd book of the year, and discover sudoku several months after the rest of the country. The end.
