"I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library."

Wednesday, November 23, 2005
Well, my information retrieval skillz have totally failed me this time. I read something the other day about a project that was a sort of cross between
bookcrossing and librarything - you could (virtually) check out people's bookcases then ask to borrow a book which would then be sent to you in the post? Something like that anyway. But I can't remember a) where I read it (although I think it was in Mslexia) b) what it was called or c) anything else. Can anyone help me?

I seem to be having a lot of memory problems lately. I actually forgot a lunch appointment yesterday (and having forgotten my mobile phone at home I couldn't even call and grovel when I realised). Designing and administering questionnaires (I literally had NO IDEA how hard this was going to be) has obviously expanded to fill all my available brain space.

Gravity is stronger around full moon time, right? I choose to believe so anyway, as it would explain why I fell over on the street for no apparent reason last week. (And no, I wasn't drunk, although as I *was* outside a pub at the time a casual observer may have drawn that conclusion. I could also be charitable and blame gravity for the man who fell over in front of me in Budgens later that night and squashed his basket full of Ginsters pasties, but you know, I think he WAS drunk...)

Anyway, I ended up with some fantastic bruises and, as you do in these situations, thought I would take a picture of them. Unfortunately my webcam wasn't quite up to the task, and if I present the results below it's more to demonstrate how a perfectly innocent pair of knees can be made to look remarkably like scary alien lifeforms than to show off the bruises:
