I like fresher's week, despite the madness. I think it's because it's the only time of the year when I'm actually in a position of relative power and knowledge. I've been in a fairly scared and paranoid place lately, all things considered. And there's something so heartening about stories where children can spend time entirely alone, camping in the fells and sailing on lakes and sleeping in abandoned huts, and Nothing Bad Happens.
