I should be feeling pretty alert today as I actually had a SHOWER instead of a bath for the first time in ages. The immersion heater at home is broken, and despite my perusal of the Reader's Digest Book Of How To Do Almost Anything, I cannot fix it. So, I came into work early and used the showers here, after sweet talking the cleaner, who seemed to think they were just for 'invalids' as she put it. I WILL be practically an invalid if I don't get to stand under hot water in the next 20 seconds, bitch! (That wasn't my sweet talk obv.)
First people coming to look at our flat tonight. May be able to use blackmail on letting agents ie. 'if you don't get my hot water back on TODAY I will tell all prospective tenants that it has NEVER worked and you are crap'. Still, this flat has been less trouble than the last one, where we didn't have ANY running water for a while.
Sometimes I wonder about Radio 4. Going by this morning's Today programme, the average time it takes them to catch on to a new internet phenomenon is 2 years. Bless. The programme interviewed a chap from Urbis (the Centre for Urban Culture), who are doing a Bookcrossing project in Manchester, and the questions sounded for all the world like this was a bizarre and unknown concept. Half a million people are already members of bookcrossing.com, which has been going since 2001. Oh well, not everyone is as geeky as us I suppose.
