Had a rather draining weekend entertaining both my parents and Matt's, rearranging furniture, and imbibing revolting cocktails in the name of birthday celebration. Matt is now 27, which, according to something I read in the local paper, is the perfect age to die if you're a rock star. Haha.On Monday night I went to scary London to see the Go-Betweens (is it just me or does going to the Astoria feel like being inside a huge egg?) They were flipping ace - Robert looks old but it gives him a sort of gravitas on top of the foppishness (and he's evidently still interested in haircare); Grant (who is the better songwriter I've finally decided) was grinning like a maniac all night and has quite sexy guitar arms; Adele on bass is, all present agreed, tres cute and pretty rocking too; and Glenn the drummer... has interesting hair. It was mostly newish material, but we did get storming versions of Spring Rain and Bye Bye Pride plus a few other oldies, yay.
I had my interview at Brighton yesterday and they have offered me a place, hurrah! But I'm now seriously bricking it about having to do academic work again, especially since they asked me loads of questions about my undergraduate degree and lo and behold I seem to have blanked the entire three years. So the prospect of writing a 20,000 word dissertation is frankly pretty hilarious at the moment. Dismal research topics such as 'tracking the use of self-access language learning materials in a university setting' are already running through my mind...
