I must be even less happy in my job than I thought. Last night's dream: for some reason I had been working late and fallen asleep at work. When I 'woke up' it was 8:50am and I realised that I'd have to open the doors to students in 10 minutes. Needing more time to get up, dress etc, I started trying to call my boss to explain. But I forgot I was already on campus so was using the full outside number instead of the extension, which didn't work. Finally the university switchboard picked up my increasingly panicky calls, declared me insane, and deleted my staff record and all my computer files (a bit like in that crap Sandra Bullock film). Then I woke up in a cold sweat and with cramp in my leg. I still feel like shit. The reality of work was reasonably exciting yesterday afternoon, as we found a baby bat just outside the office which had been attcked by a magpie. Attempts to nurse it back to health ended with having to call the campus authorities, who bore it away muttering something about 'pest control'. Alas, poor Betty. I'm not normally a great animal lover, especially if the animal concerned looks like a furry locust, but after sharing my desk with Betty for an hour I got quite tearful and began squeaking about protected species and sanctuaries and 'please let me know what happens'. A grip needs to be got.
