"I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library."

Here is a gratuitous picture of (sadly only the SECOND cutest) Matt Holland:

What to do about my writing? Motivation levels are close to an all time low, and the occasional bit of praise I might get for a poem is just a drop in the ocean of self-doubt and basic laziness. There are a couple of night classes starting soon which I am almost considering, but these things are always full of, well, ladies of a certain age, and slant alarmingly towards a particular kind of crashingly dull autobiographical writing. I suppose I shouldn't look down my nose at that - all writing is, arguably, autobiographical. I know I can't (and wouldn't want to) keep myself entirely out of my poetry. But I want a different word for it... autopsychological? Hm.

One thing I do know is that my poetic vocabulary has diminished since leaving the intense world of words and words about words that was my English degree. So perhaps it's not a writing course I need but a re-immersion in academia; recent conversations with poet-academic friends left me enviously out of my depth (despite the sneaking suspicion that they were actually talking out of their arses.)

Life can't all be about washing machines and office politics.

Are your chat up techniques a little stale? (No, not YOUR in particular, just a general your, don't worry...) Then you can benefit from
this. Who says the modern interweb is damaging our powers of social interaction?

This week, I have been mostly a) not getting the job I wanted and b) doing the job I don't want. At the moment, the latter consists of guiding overseas students through their first baby steps into English culture (for which read 'teaching them how to use computer language learning programs which they will never use again unless they accidentally click on them while looking for hotmail.com.) However, to break the monotony of this there is the exciting cut and thrust of debate about whether lower intermediate level is colour coded with pink or purple. When oh when will I enter the hallowed portals of the Proper Library?

Thank god for Mandee, reclaiming Bagpuss for the scatalogically inclined. And Mark and Christian, promoting the manboob as fashion statement.
